John's Moving & Storage in Raleigh

We have moved a number of times in the past 4 years, twice cross country and twice local. We have never had such an terrible experience as we did with John's Moving & Storage of Raleigh, NC. The company came recommended by a friend who had known people who used them about a year earlier and had a good experience. For us it was the absolute worst move as almost every single piece of furniture had a nick or scrape of some kind. The salesman did a good job of selling their full-time movers and explaining how they wrapped the furniture before putting it on the truck and used mats to keep your home free of damage. While they did wrap the furniture it wasn't until AFTER they took it out of the house. That's probably where the furniture got nicked and scratched. Our new wood floors also got dents in it from tables they put down carelessly They also dragged the footboard of our custom made wood bedframe along the sidewalk, leaving deep scars in the wooden legs. When we noted this to the movers, they became defensive and said that Nothing's perfect! I then told the chief mover who became very rude and wanted to know why I was telling him!. After that the movers left the bed, but didn't assemble the last pieces and left with the screws to complete the job. We did contact the company through the proper channels with a damage report as well as a report regarding the lack of professionalism and overall damage to our other furniture. We received a call from the owner who apologized and said that wasn't the way they did business. That was our only experience and how we know them to do business. He called back a few weeks later asking me to take photos of the bed and send it to him so it could be repaired. I did so immediately and that was about a month ago and we still have had no service. I called him last week and left a message and still no response. Our move was in mid-December 2007 and it's now the end of March 2008. We highly recommend that you stay away from John's Moving & Storage of Raleigh, NC. We know there are good companies out there, so don't bother with this one.
