Question DetailsAsked on 7/14/2015

Just trying to find out if I can buy roofing material to give to roofer to do the repairs.

I only want to know if I can buy the material for the roof & use that toward the deductible since I don't have the cash.My deductible is $2420 & insurance will pay the rest. Since I don't have that amount in cash, can I buy the material on my Home Depot credit card & that will amount to my deductible? That way the insurance check will go to the roofer. What's wrong with that?

It is perfectly fine to buy your own roofing material. I suggest it everytime Menard's has one of their 11% rebates on purchases. Only the amount spent will apply towards your deductable ie spend $2000 and you will be responsible for the remainder of $420 on the labor side.

Make sure your contractor is aware they are bidding labor only and have each prepare a materials list for you to purchase. Example # of squares, starter strip, drip edge etc. See my blogs for ideas on gutters and gutter covers if you need them. FYI on reroof it is ideal time to replace the gutters if needed.
