Question DetailsAsked on 10/28/2016

Looking for an estimated cost for a shed dormer off of the back of a Cape style home in Weymouth, MA.

House is a cape so we would be adding to the existing structure. It is a 2 story house with a shingled roof.

Actual cost for your configuration and roof framing and such, you would need an Architect to rough up a design and give you a construction cost estimate - and be sure to get several bids on this, both because this sort of job has a wide range on bids, but also to help identify if someone is way underbidding the job because they do not understand what it takes to reframe the roof around the opening. Not real tough if less than 4-6 feet wide, much tougher if wider - but in a potentially heavy snow area like yours you do NOT want a contractor who is going to cut corners. Another reason to use an architect or structural engineer too, rather than having a contractor get a "design" from whoever he can get to do it cheapest to be able to get the building permit.
