Question DetailsAsked on 7/13/2013

My window air conditioner will not turn on. Any troubleshooting suggestions?

There is power, and the light on the plug lights up, but no luck with the unit - a Haier ESA406K series AC. Worked perfectly last summer (about 6 times in our guest room) and now nothing. We tried resetting the power cord switch (it has a trip switch on it, with a test button and a reset button) and confirmed that the outlet has power. Suggestions?

If you know how to use a volt ohm meter and are comfortable around electric troubleshooting, I would pull off the cover and check there is actually power to the control panel from the cord - unfortunately, those cords with breakers built into them frequently fail themselves, and the mini breakers have a habit or blowing out when tripped, so evenn if it says it is reseet may not be conducting electricity. I would then check that when the power switch or pushbutton is ON, there is power at the leads from there to the air conditioner compressor.

I would also make sure there is no overheat or circuit breaker (usually a VERY small red pushbutton type) on the AC panel or the compressor motor itself, and if there is that power is coming out of the breaker to the compressor motor.

If all those check out OK I would throw up my hands and find an HVAC repairman - Search the List (in green header bar) for local repairmen and reviews.
