Question DetailsAsked on 2/24/2016

Need quality printer to print 1 copy of a book.

I am seeking a high quality 4-color specialty printer who can print and bind (in leather) 1 copy of a 450+ page book that is 8 1/2" x 11" and contains about 75% text and 25% color photos. I want both the interior and exterior (cover) printed plus I want to use high quality paper. I want the book to be leather bound and slipped into a leather bound case.
I need details as to what the printer expects from me electronically and what lead-in time the printer needs
so as to allow for a reasonable production schedule. To repeat: I only want to print 1 copy.
Thank you, Leon Bolognese

Certainly for 1 copy you want a digital printer, not offset. Angies List has two Printer categories - copies, and invitations. The latter is probably more what you need - but will probably have to call a few to find one who can do this, and he may send the binding out to be done because not many local many commercial printers can do leather binding and slipcase. Certainly you are talking a commercial printer, not a drop-in local copy center.

Be sure the printer provides info on the specific color-matching profile he needs from you - your digital file may need to be formatted to a specific color matching system for the printer model he uses, which you may need to download the color profile file to embed the correct color info in your document.

And on the paper and leather for a high-end product like this - don't forget acid-free archival quality paper pr parchment, and if you want embossed title and author and such on the book and slipcover.

Be sure, for what you are paying, that the printer keeps the electronic print file on record, so you can order more if desired in the future without the full setup charge. Also, if this book is really important to you, as it seems, I would not print just one - I would make at least one duplicate (not much additional cost, relatively speaking) to keep in a safe deposit box or maybe a couple of copies in safekeeping with different relatives or such.
