Five other possibilities, if you are interested:

1) gopher poison grain pellets are effective - you have to bury them in the hole and then cave the entrance so pets can't get at them by accident, but I found them effective.

2) stychnine on vegetables works well - again, have to shove down in hole and block entrance off so unintended animals don't get at it

3) might or might not be legal in your area, but in California buying a King snake or Gopher snake was a pretty effective way to discourage them, if you have a large enough colony or infestation of gophers and ground squirrels to keep them fed.

4) there are also killing and live traps you can bait and place in the entrance hole tht work if you use the right bait

5) if not in a fire risk area, there are smoke bombs you can put in the hole and then cave or fill in all entrances as the smoke comes out - somewhat effective, as some are quick enough in blocking the tunnels, some are not. Works best at night when they are mostly asleep.
