I suspect if you threatened to report them to the state pharmaceutical licensing board they would back down - because I believe I read that there are court precedences about denying medical care to a pearson with good cause - meaning unless they have proof of abuse of pain meds or drug-related arrest or such, they cannot refuse to fill them. However, since this has happened recently, it is likely due to the recent reclassification of some pain meds as a higher-level drug, and increased DEA crackdown on people getting medically unnecessary prescriptions.
I would say your orthopedic doctor should be able to connect you with a pharmacy who trusts HIM, hence will fill your prescriptions. ALso, AL has a category for Pain Management clinics in the Health area of Search the List.
