Repair or replace? It's a French door refrigerator/freezer with /water dispenser and the motor turns completely off

The refrigerator is about 15 years old, maybe closer to 20 years old and it has been service in the first few years of owning it. It's seems to go on and off randomly. At times, I have shaken it and it turns back on but at most it shuts off to the point of the freezer items melt and the refrigerator cabinet is a little cool instead of cold. The ice water dispenser stop working about 7 years ago, plus I didn't like the quality of the water. It has a filter but after a while I always saw green slime in the water line. I have a mini refrigerator and have move some items there...I don't use the freezer side anymore. This has been going on for about 7 to ten days. Is it worth fixing and what may be the cost of repair?

Tough call - especially given that the water system appears to be pretty contaminated - so the cold water and ice dispenser system would probably have to be replaced. (And before connection to any new unit, the water line to the reefer should be checked - it may need replacing too if the bacterial growth is occurring in there - not likely in copper tubing but common in plastic PEX type tubing.)

Since the unit seems to be working sometimes the compressor/cooling system is likely OK - could be overheating because of dirty evaporator coils (in which case it would run for awhile then shut down before fully cooled) or a coil cooling fan dust blocked or failed causing coil vapor lock. Could also be a thermostat issue, or loose wiring, or even a compressor relay or capacitor issue. Diagnosis probably $100-200 by an Appliance Repair - Large tech (your Search the List category to find repair companies) - repair itself could be a few hundred $ more, but (especially if electronic control) as much as $500 range or even more if it takes a bunch or diagnositc time and then the main control board needs replacing, or if the tech starts replacing items one by one because he can't figure out the source of the problem - so a tough call.

If you are pretty certain that shaking it has caused it to turn back on at times (you must have been a wicked at bumper arcade games) then is likely a loose connection or board so a simple fix. Of course (using one hand on cord and not touching reefer otherwise) try wiggling the cord - could be loose in the outlet or have a bad connection in the wire at the reefer.

Personally, considering the age, if you intend using the ice/water system if it was fixed I would say get a new one. If you don't care about those, I would probably get a tech out to diagnose it and see what he says from there about repair cost - because you are likely looking at $1000 range or more for a replacement.
