San Francisco bathroom remodel cost?

We are starting the process of looking for a contractor to work on a bathroom remodel. It is a relatively small bathroom and is not a lavish remodel (replacing tub with walk-in shower, retiling the floor and shower area, new vanity, new mirror, new basin, new faucets, new sconce lighting, new exhaust fan, new recessed lighting above shower). One contractor's estimate was $40,000 which seemed very high What do you think would be a realistic estimate?

Hi Bob C,

I'm not sure I can help you with the numbers, but I would recommend that you get at least three estimates. It's important to factor in the quality of the materials used in calculating those estimate totals. When you review those estimates, make sure you're comparing apples to apples. For example, does one estimate include the removal and disposal of the old materials, but not another? Oftentimes, estimates can differ greatly because of the many variables related to each project. Get the details from those estimates in writing so you can sit down and compare the products and services each contractor offers.

Good luck with your project,

Hi, Make sure they get all necessary permits, ie for electrical, plumbing, etc. Then you'll have the peace of mind that they're on the up and up & doing the basics correctly.
