Should I paint or replace chipped ceramic floor tile?

I have three or four 16"x16" ceramic tiles that each have one gash/chip in them. The largest chip is the size of a big toe - the others are smaller. I have enough replacement tiles, but the tile is 11-12 years old. I'm worried that if I chose to replace the entire tile that I won't be able to match the grout, and the floor would look worse than just filling the chips and painting them as close as possible to the tile color. The tile is a medium colored blend of beige and grey.
