Question DetailsAsked on 12/20/2015

Should I repoint my whole house or only the sections in disrepair?

I have an historic house in center city Philadelphia. There are a few patches of bricks on the front of the house where the bricks are deteriorated and the mortar is missing or cracked. Obviously, those sections need to be repointed and some of the bricks replaced. But is it worth it to repoint the entire house? I don't know when the house was last pointed, but the bulk of the mortar is not obviously decayed. I don't want to rip out perfectly good mortar, but I also don't want to have to do this again in a few years if I can avoid it.
