The ignition key keeps getting stuck on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo l6 4.0 litre....could it be the ignition switch?

sometimes, the key wont turn when i try to start it, so i have to jiggle the key and shake the steering wheel back and forth to get it to turn and crank up.

The most likely problem is the Key and Tumbler. Your key could be worn down and not turning the proper tumblers. If you have a spare key, try that first. If it doesn't solve the problem, then the cheapest fix is to replace the key and tumbler. Most any parts store should carry the correct replacement.

NOTE: If your key chain has a lot of key, tokens, etc., then the weight will wear out the tumbler quicker.

We had the same problem with ours, look at the shifter, we had a piece of plastic that had kept the button pushed in, we removed it and have had no problem since.
