The kitchen floor of our 1932 French Tudor appears to be painted over 1/2" pine boards, generally in good shape. Refinish or replace?

Definitely try to refinish. You can't get that quality of lumber anymore with the fast growth lumber sold these days. It just doesn't look the same. If you strip a section of the floor and find nails exposed you have no choice but if you can strip it clean without getting to the nails in the tongue and roove you're good to go.
