Vendor seems to have disappeared? What to be done?

Southern Grace Exteriors was an A listed roofer for my area. They seemed to do a good job until we had heavy rain. The first leak was in September of 2015 (three weeks after completion.) The owner and son came back and resealed the roof line. A few weeks ago we had another leak appear. This time there is no answer at the number. The voice mail is full, and we attempted to contact through e-mail. Puff...Gone.

Last week I checked and the vendor was still listed on Angie's List as an A vendor. I left an e-mail posting on your website hoping the contractor would contact me. There was still no response and the vendor listing was pulled from Angie's List. I spent $4400.00 for a repair on a 15 x15 ft. small room roof repair based on an Angie's list recommendation and I have leaks.
What do I do? Will Angie's list help us out?

Thank you,

Robin Miller

Yeah - new listing with no reviews on AL and detailed data not filled in by vendor on the profile, and website is largely non-functional. Here is the contact info off the webpage -

Yeah - "they seemed to do a good job until it rained" ... that is the acid test. Considering they took you for $4400 for not more than a 250SF repair, which would normally run about $5-7/SF (assuming normal composition shingles) or $1250-1750 for total reroof (more like maybe $1500-2500 if sheathing had to be replaced too), I can see why they would not want to come back - probably figure they got all they could out of you.

Hopefully they provided a written warranty - or google to see if home improvements/repairs in your state have a mandatory warranty period. If either is true, IF they were bonded contact the conding company about calling their bond and having the bonding company get it repaired by another contractor - or I would consider maybe demanding a reroof if you have had two leaks shortly after reroofing (assuming the repair was a reroof rather than repair).

You could also check with the local building department permit clerk to see if they are p[ulling building permits still - might be able to give you new contact info. Ditto to the local or state Business License Department - they should be able to give you the most recent contact info they have - or tell you if their license has expired.

As to what AL can do to help - if you are the proper class member, their guarantee program might help you - contact Member Services to see if this applies, but my understanding is that only applies to Deals.
