We are residing a home and want to know if we use 1/4in fanfold insulation board, do we have to also us a tyvek wrap?

In most applications, the fan fold insulation will also qualify as the weather resistant barrier so it would not be required to do both.

The reality is that the housewrap (Tyvek, Raindrop, etc) is relatively cheap and if you put it on overtop the fan fold, it would not be "waste" of money.

Better idea yet is to cover the entire home in a 1-2" rigid foam and create a complete thermal break for the outside wall.

If you are going to do the siding once, a few more dollars invested in the foam and a more advanced wall design will net you a bunch in savings for the life of the home.
