Shower Head

I am confused. A "shower base" is the part of a shower you stand in - the "floor". However, some vendors/plumbers/tilemen (more so east of the Mississippi in my experience) call the waterproof pan (plastic pan, sheet plastic, or copper) which lies under the shower (especially in tile showers) the "base", so somewhat interchangeable terminology. Anywho, a shower base (meaning the part you stand in) can be metal, fiberglass, polyester resin, acrylic, or other plastics including PVC, though that would be an unusuall plastic for that purpose. PVC is the plastic commonly used for plastic water pipes - commonly white or gray, though in a premanufactured shower base can be pretty much any color.

Here are images of typical bases and some pans -

PVC would usually be the "pan" - a flexible plastic liner like a pond liner, which goes UNDER a synthetic base as a backup leak protection, or more commonly within the mortar bed which the tile is laid on, as the truly waterproof layer in a tile shower which takes any leakage through the grout or coming out the bottom of the wall waterproof liner in some cases and drains it to the drain pipe below the surface grillage or grating. Like this one labeled in images as the "shower pan liner" -

However, in the detail part of the question you say "shower head" - which is the spray head the water sprays out of, so totally different thing. Some are white or gray PVC, and PVC is sometimes (along with ABS) used as the unit body with a chrome covering.

Perhaps you could respond back using the Answer This Question yellow button right below your question and explain in more detail what your are talking about - the waterproof liner UNDER a tiled shower floor, a plastic shower floor, or a shower head ?
