What are the advantages of a ductless heat pump system?

1400 square foot two story townhouse in Richmond, Va. The current HVAC system is over 20 years old, with an unusual configuration using hot water/refrigerant in coils and a fan to blow air thru ducts. The first HVAC estimator has suggested a Daikin heat pump system that is ductless. According to him it does not need additional electric heating strips to heat.

do not know what part of the country you live in but if your winter temp goes below 30 degrees a heat pump without heat strips will not work to keep you warm. The only advantage to a ductless system is that it will be locally controlled. A multi unit ductless system will cost about the same as regular system but the choice is yours and yours only
