Question DetailsAsked on 9/22/2014

What's the average price to refill my system with freon?

My system has a leak and was told I would have to refill it with 22 freon. The leak repair is $175.00. And $45.00 a pound. They said it will be $100.00 to add the freon plus $45.00 times 9lbs for a 3ton unit. I think that's a bit steep. Thank you

Here in Florida , that's low. If you can't replace the R22 system, then that's a fair price.

Freon prices vary from company to company. I've seen from $30 to $75 dollars per pound for r22 so $45 is a fair price. We dont charge a fee to refill (charge) a system though. It's included in the price per pound..As far as the leak repair it all depends where it's leaking from and what needs to be done to fix it.

The only thing about your numbers that struck me even a bit was the 9 pounds of Freon - for a 3 ton system I would normally expect more like 5-7 pounds with about 20-25 feet of line to and from the evaporator - but maybe you have a longer run or two evaporators.

Otherwise, looks in normal range to me, as do the other comments.
