What is the best brand for stackable washer and dryer?

I am shopping for a stackable washer and stackable dryer (two appliances that front load and can be stacked on top of each other). There are so many brands I'm finding, Maytag, LD, Frigidaire, Whirlpool, GE, etc. and every review I read is different from site to site. Who makes the best performer, less repair, and long-lasting individual washer and dryer?

Best brand? Hmmm ... an interesting question indeed. I can't speak to that per se, but here is a bit of our recent experience:

A few months ago we needed a new washer/dryer for a new laundry room that we added and found an LG combo "all in one" washer dryer unit (condensing and non vented) and have been thrilled with it. Very efficient. It's performance has been beyond our expecations and runs far more quietly than we could have anticipated (it is adjacient to our bedroom). However, we NEEDED a non venting unit since it would not be possible for us to vent in that location and that did direct some of our criteria.

A con? It probably would not be able to handle doing a full king-sized comforter. But we do also have a larger front loader in the basement that can do larger loads for those occassions. Another con? One needs to be diligent to clean the lint from the door gasket after each use. To us, that's not a big deal but it's part of the care and feeding to keep it running well - since we needed a non-venting unit.

Generally speaking, LG is highly regarded for their washers and dryers. Most manufacturs do SOME stuff really well and other stuff not so much. Personally, I would not go with any one manufacturer for everything but cherry pick what each does really well for what our needs are.

LG does make some "stackable" units, according to their Web site. A major consumer reporting site seems to indicate that these units perform well and have a low incidence of repair vs. their competition. We subscribe to them so I'm not going to name names or quote #s - but you probably know who I'm talking about. Sears gave us a great price!

Good luck to you!
