What does "buy it now "entail on deals portion of Angie's List? Does it mean we are committed to buying something?

Or does the phrase mean we want the contractor to contract us only?

AL operates in a funny way - you "buy" the Deal first, with AL saying they holding the money till the job is done according to what they have previously stated. If the contractor cannot perform the work you want done or on your desired schedule then Al will refund your money - of course unless the coupon or deal states no refunds or non-cancellable.

Definitiely an odd business model, and it would be interesting to see if the courts would uphold the "contract" if a contractor refused to cancel the Deal - since you have not agreed, in most cases, on a scope of work or final price, but have "bought" the Deal basically sight unseen. I can tell you, unless this was a very simple one-time arrangement like carpet cleaning or window washing or such I certainly would not be caught in that sort of black hole arrangement.

Hi, this is Meranda with Angie's List.

Yes, buying the deal means you're purchasing the service from the service provider. You will still need to schedule and arrange for the work with the company. If for some reason the project doesn't work out (you can't make the scheduling work, your project scope turns out to be too big, etc.) and no work has been completed, Angie's List will refund the purchase. You can find out more about the Big Deal on the FAQ page.
