Question DetailsAsked on 4/28/2020

What would be causing a horrific chemical smell in my apartment? Smell is worse at night.

Top floor apartment. Unit below me has water damage in ceiling that maintenance repainted rather then find the leak. The bedrooms have an awful sewer like smell like when you open an outhouse door- not rotten eggs smell. It is making us sick with headache, eye irritation, respiratory issues, burning noses etc. The smell stays on our clothes and bedding.Maintenance claims they smell nothing. A plumber did not smell anything but the windows were closed at the time. Smell gets worse when air circulates. No specific spot on the carpet or stain yet it's as if it rises from the floor. Need to find a solution to prove there is a health hazard as landlord continues to claim nothing is wrong in the apartment even though we have all these symptoms!
