Depends a lot on material and quality of staircase, available space, eatc - can run from as cheap as about $1500-2000 in a location where essentially zero carpentry work is needed install it (other than cutting out the opening) using a cheapo $500-1000 range prefab metal staircase, on up to $4-12,000 where significant structural rework is needed to safely put in the opening for it or going through concrete or brick construction or going with a somewhat nicer unit (typically $2-4,000 staircase materials cost for wood steps on metal, or $4000+ for all-wood, and from about $6000 on up for custom designed and built fancy or special materials or special construction units).

Also - if going from within a room to within another room, rather than from hallway to hallway, fire code may require a fireproof hatch access which can be a SERIOUS pain to install correctly and to use - because in most areas an open vertical floor-to-floor access, especially between bedrooms, is illegal.

You also have to pay attention to fire code - many of the factory units sold do NOT meet fire code in some areas if the only fire exit from the room, and of course not a prayer of meeting ADA requirements if applicable to your building.
