What is the cost of removing a 400 gal oil tank, in PA. and replacing with a 250 gal tank?

Phila.,PA. Tank is in basement/. A 275 won't fit thru the door, told it was 27 in. Need smaller,250,or 225.Also would consider plastic tank with the metal casing outside the tank. Don't keep house hot, around 65 degrees, but it has tio heat a split-lrvel house. Thanks for any help. Money is also a factor,am disabled

At a store or tank manufacturer/dealer for tank only - for above-ground/basement tank (without any installation or piping to the furnace or fill pipe from outside) right in the $500 range including plastic spill/leak containment basin. For direct burial rated double-wall tank, right around $700 at least in our area - not including installation cost or removal or existing tank or hookup.

In your case, sounds like you need a vertical tank (some fit through 24" doorway).

From an installer (as part of furnish and install contract) typically $550-750 surface/basement, $800-1000 range underground after his markup is added. When comparing deals make sure what is included - some include overfill alarm, low-level alarm, leak alarms, etc - some do not. Ditto to extension tubes and vents for outside tanks, or outside vent tubes for basement tanks. Also - some do not include required cradles or legs, or tiedowns in high seismic areas or flood areas, so be sure (both on tank and on any isntallation contract) that you are looking at everything you need and are comparing apples to apples.
