What is a fair hourly rate for a handyman

As much as they can rip you off for. Pay by the job, not the hour. Many handymen charge anywhere from $20-30 per hour but drag their feet and run up the time to make more money. Expect a minimum labor charge for whatever you are having done. Even if it only takes 20 minutes a handyman will chage at least $50-100 and a contractor will be $150 or more minimum. Otherwise it isn't worth the time and fuel to drive to your home for the work, not to mention covering business overhead costs.
