What is the best floor system to install over asbestos tile? Thinking of expoxy or ceramic tile.

The asbestos tile was found under carpet in our basement. There is a concrete slab below the existing tile.

Here is a response to a similar issue which might interest you -

The problem with putting anything over it is the risk of it accumulating moisture and strting to bulge and peel, ruining anything over it other than carpet. If this is asphaltic asbestos tile with asphaltic mastic adhesive, I would use a breathable carpet mat and artificial fiber carpet (less susceptible to mold than natural fibers).

No go on epoxy or tile - the epoxy will not stick right without sanding, which you obviously can't do, and tile over linoleum (which asbestos tile basically is, in pieces) is addressed in the response above.

If you are going to redo your floor, I would think ahead to resale time - you wouldhave to disclose the asbestos tile, so if I were you I would bite the bullet and have it taken out now if you can afford it, then have a new floor put in starting with a clean concrete slab. Be sure to get a certificate and post-work test results to prove the asbestos was abated.
