"Best" for one is not best for another, and in comparing doors fiberglass and steel are pretty close together in performance.

Steel is not quite as good as fiberglass for thermal properties, but is somewhat better for security. I say somewhat, because a burglar has a lot easier ways into a house than taking an axe or sawzall to a fiberglass door, so from a practical standpoint fiberglass is probably almost as a secure as steel for the normal homeowner. Fiberglass can be broken easier by a battering ram, and the lock would be easier to drive through than with a steel door.

To me, steel is easier to paint and holds paint better, and does not fuzz up with prolonged sunlight exposure like fiberglass will.

Fiberglass will not rust, though a factory painted steel door won't either if kept painted, except near constant salt air exposure I might prefer fiberglass.

Fiberglass is probably a bit better at keeping street noises out, though I doubt you would notice the difference.

If you have kids or a spouse who slams doors going to work in the morning, steel tends to be quite a bit heavier, so if slamming doors bother you or you work different shifts, fiberglass would be better for that. However, steel is more durable with extreme use.

Pesonally, I went with foam-core steel and have never regretted it.
