Here you go:

1. Ask for references.

2. Ask about their insurance coverage and if they are bonded.

3. Ask if they have the proper licenses for the job at hand

4. Ask if the price they give you will be firm.

5. Ask for a timeline

6. Ask for everything in writing
7. Ask what they are specialists in (doesn't mean they won't do a good job if it doesn't line up with your job, but it is a great question to ask to learn about how they discuss things with their customers.)

8. Ask if it's ok if you wait to get other bids. (again, a leading question to see how they react)

9. Ask them if they can handle the job.

That covers all the basics. The question is pretty broad, but these should help you get off on the right foot.
