Question DetailsAsked on 11/22/2016

What sort of repairman do we need to install a new gas stove/oven where an old gas range top was?

We had an old (1960's) gas stove top over cabinets that has quit working. We are in need of install for a new all-in-one stove/oven. Is this work done by a plumber? electrician? Can a general handyman handle this task? Thanks!

IF there is already space for a slide-in range or the cabinet that the range top is built into was sized for a standard range so it can just be removed, perhaps with a bit of cutting back of the countertop (if formica or wood or such) where the range top is, a Handyman can commonly do this and new flooring under it if desired, though for first-rate cabinetry appearance, or if the cabinets need modification/cutting into to make the opening for the range then Cabinets would be the right Search the List category.

And if stone or fake stone or similar material countertop, a Countertop contractor to cut that back and dress up the cut ends.

Possibly Plumber and/or Electrician also if the gas supply needs upgrading (likely not if 3/4" gasline, possibly if 1/2" or smaller) or if you do not have the needed electrical outlet behind there for the range. (Normal 120V outlet if gas range, special larger 220/240V outlet with the funny prong arrangement if going with electric range.)

Or for all-in-one contractor, Remodeling - Kitchen and Bath would be the category, though this is a small job so might take a bit of doing to find one who will take it on.
