What type of high efficiency furnace should I buy?

I will be getting a new high efficiency furnace soon. Has anyone bought one recently or have any brand they would recomment?

Carol, welcome.

I too am researching energy efficient forced air heating furnace brands.. This furnace & duct work are orignal to the house and OLD long before we moved here 15 years ago. Although we have an alternative heat source, I don't want to wait until the dead of winter before replacing the furnace. Our local natural gas provider offers a rebate but only via participating contractors. After checking Consumer's Reports MFG evaluations, I will check A-L contractors evaluations before obtaining estimates. SIGH! decisions, decisions.

There are many resources out there for your research, and I just want to point out that the high efficiency furnaces all require an outside supply of air and an outside vent. Also, existing ductwork might not be suitable in size or adequate for today's heating requirements, and there's no point in getting a high efficiency furnace if the heat can't get to where it needs to be.

<<excellent advise for anyone who may have forgotten to factor in the costs associated with existing ductwork. We must compare apples to apples when obtaining estimates.
