When doing major dental work like implants and bridges, can you trust a general dentist, or go to someone who specializes in that type work

The older we get, the more work we need. My husband and I are both looking at major dental work. We don't want to wear dentures, but prices for dental work are astronomical! Is it safe to get by and find a general dentist who is willing to do these procedures, or should we go to a more expensive specialist? (Dental insurance doesn't usually cover much of this type work.)

You might want to consider crossing the border into Mexico. A large number of very well trained dentists have offices near the border, US dental insurance is accepted with no difficulties, and the price is about 1/3 of what it is in the states. And these guys do tons and tons of the expensive, complicated work day in and out, where your local dentist may only do that sort of thing a half dozen times a year. My dad went a year or so ago for 4 implants, and the cost of flying down there twice plus hotel plus the work was less than 1/2 what the local dentist was going to charge. You can even make a vacation out of it if you want. In addition to having places in cities near the border, there are also lots of dental offices in major tourist destinations.

El Salvador or Costa Rica (I *think* Costa Rica) is also supposed to be very good for it (I forget which) and also quite beautiful, but Dad went with Mexico since it's much cheaper to travel there from the northern US.
