For my money - Trane. I have not seen many Daikin systems, but in my experience getting parts and warranty service on Japanese units is quite iffy, and commonly means waiting a long time for parts - plus you are counting on just a small handful of vendors who are familiar with them for service probably, not to mention the issue of being able to read instructions and manuals that were written in Japanese and then possibly poorly translated to English, whereas most HVAC contractors/technicians can work on Tranes.

I just want to point out that Daikin is manufactured in Texas for US distribution. They own Amana.

Both can be excellent, mainly depends on the installation of the equipment and who stands behind it "when" it has an issue. Another way to say "It's the installer, not the equipment, that is most important".

Trane makes excellent products, there is no doubt. Has always be regarded in the industry as "Hard to stop a Trane". It's manufactured in most part in Tyler, TX. Has been a leader in the USA more many, many years. Considered a very reliable system.

Daikin, a Japanese company, is the largest manufacturer of Air Conditioning equipment in the world. They just built the largest manufacturing facality in the Nothern Hemisphere, in Houston, TX. (actually the Boeing 747 plant in Evert, WA is the only one larger)

They decided to bring their expertise and excellent products to the USA, and wrote Mr. Goodman a Billion Dollar check to purchase Goodman Manufacturing (The largest producer of Air Conditioners in the USA). Goodman had previously purchased "Amana Heating and Cooling". So now, the Goodman, Amana, and Daikin products are all being built to the tighter quality control of this 90 year old company, right here in the good ole USA. In my experiance, they are building an excellent product. They have patients that allow them to do some amazing things with energy efficency and just as important (in the Southeast at least) reducing the humidity in homes and commercial buildings.

Both of these manufacturers make "Good, Better, Best" choices of equipment, depending what you need or can afford.

But Remember: According to the Department of Energy and many others, the most important consideration is not the price, but the quality of the installation, therefore, the contractor you purchase from...
