Which (thick) restore product for deck sealing is best?

The type of deck product that seeps into cracks in the wood and results in a level surface. How deep can the cracks be? Is it used on railings, posts, etc. or is a stain with the same color used? Is any color better than others (light vs dark, etc.)? I've seen different products at Lowe's and Home Depot. Thank you!

My opinion - none of the thick, paint-like restoration products - I have never seen one that did not crack and let water in to rot the wood, and/or peel, in short order.
