For my money - Whirlpool hands down. (Made by AO Smith, along with Kenmore and more)

Rheem are supposedly generally a bit more energy efficient, but in my experience tend to die right at their advertised life, whereas Whirlpool and Kenmore tend to run 50-100% of advertised life so you get a lot more for your money. For some reason, in my experience, AO Smith water heaters (which company makes Kenmore and Whirlpool water heaters) also seem to die at or even before their rated life - I have heard of quite a few not even getting close to the rated life before developing a tank leak.
