Why does Angies List call contractors “licensed” when they are not? Part 2

Recently, AngiesList showed a new California electrical company, Coto Electrical, as licensed when nothing at all showed up about their having a license on the website. When I wrote to Angies List about this, it turned out that Angies List knew all along that the company was “in progress” to acquire a license—and had agreed to give them a certain amount of time to be listed as licensed anyway. Angies List also gave this UNLICENSED company the right to buy advertising for their Big Deal while they were unlicensed but listed as having a license.

When the agreed upon date came and went with no license acquired, they were taken off Angies List.

But they never should have been given this leeway.
