Why does Angies List call contractors “licensed” when they are not? Part 5

All license numbers should be on contractors’ Angies List page, with a link to the CSLB site rather than to the unreliable Better Business Bureau, so members can find out the truth for themselves.

Wow, 5 parts , so far.

I understand your flustration, but as Angie's is a nationwide service, not all states have statewide licensing sites to be checked. Some areas do not have licensing in all trades ,some little to no licensing.

Point is , sorting all this out is a major issue for a nationide service.

As a business on Angie's List, I can tell you Angie's recent survayed us for license ,and other information, including past criminal record.

My point is , I believe they are working on this issue.

Hi! This is Mary Beth, from the Member Care Department.

Each provider on the List is responsible for reporting their licensing status through our Licensing Attestation program. Our Trade Licensing Department will then perform audits to ensure the accuracy of these claims.

Whether a provider is listed as having a license or not, we always encourage members to follow-up with service providers to make sure that their licensing information is accurate and up-to-date. The List provides a starting point, but additional research and verification is always encouraged. I have submitted a suggestion on your behalf regarding how we display this information on our service providers' profiles. We are always looking for ways to improve our service, so feedback like yours helps us to get a perspective on things we can do better. While I cannot promise this policy change will occur, I have forwarded your comments so they can be considered as we continue to make changes to our service. If you would like for us to verify the licensing for this provider, or see if a license is required for a particular trade, we are happy to help. Please just reply to this message or give one of our Neighborhood Specialists a call toll-free at 1-888-944-5478, and we can pass your request to our Trade Licensing Department. Please let me know if I can provide any additional assistance or information. You can respond by submitting a new answers as a response in this Q&A, email us at or toll-free at 1-866-783-2980 to speak with a live representative. Our call center hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am-8:15 pm Eastern Time or Saturday from 8:30 am-3:00 pm ET. Thanks for reaching out!--Mary Beth
