Question DetailsAsked on 5/21/2020

Why did my water pipes squeal when I turned on any faucet? Whether main cutoff was open or closed. Now it stopped.

Squealing started about a month ago. Found water shutoff valve to be completely hand-closed. Opened it completely up, and squealing stopped and water flow was same. Completely hand-closed shutoff valve, and water continued to flow at same rate but without squealing. During this process, the water never drained from the system throughout the house. What caused the squealing? Does not seem to have been air in the system.
