Question DetailsAsked on 11/30/2015

Will steel garage doors look good with Hardiplank siding on the house? Wood is not an option.

I'll be re-siding my house with Hardiplank siding. But first I'm replacing the old wooden garage doors, because the doors are cracking and moldy. My old garage door openers will be replaced, too (they no longer work and need fixing, and they're horribly loud even before they broke down). What I'm worried about is that the appearance of the garage doors might clash with the Hardiplank. I'm not sure if I need to be worried, but this is my first time remodeling a house, so I'm just being careful. Since I don't want to replace it with wood again (I prefer low maintenance), that leaves steel, vinyl, and aluminum. And from what I gather, steel can look pretty good. Also, how do I ensure that the color of the garage doors matches the siding eventually, if I haven't selected the siding yet? Any advice?

First, congrats on your first remodel of a house.

Secondly, yes it will look just great. I would try for a "woodgrain" fininsh imprinted on the steel. This will add to the character and make it less shiny. Try to pick your color of both before ordering your doors. Hardiplank comes in many colors. Ask the garage door company for a swatch to match the colors off of and I'm sure you will be very happy.

I hope this helps, good luck.
