Will vinyl siding stop woodpeckers?

Woodpeckers are boring holes in my cedar shingle siding. If I install vinyl siding , will they bore through that as well?

Not necessarily, but they figure out pretty quick that they are not in wood so USUALLY do not do much damage - but I have seen a case or two on vinyl and even aluminum siding where they did a significant number of holes (a dozen or so) before they gave up.

Of course, if you have insects behind the siding that they hear they will burrow on through, but usually they are just hunting and pecking (pun intended) for voids that they then dig into to find the insects that made the voids. OF course, behind lap siding it is largely voids, so they tend to test hole lap siding a lot.

I would certainly be sure you have an ample supply of spare siding from the original batch to have a color match - possibly a full bundle, or even more if also in hail or high windstorm/tornado/hurricane country.
