Wind is the enemy of an ocean close home. Metal is far superior to a shingled roof for resisting wind damage. Salt corrosion is the metal roofs enemy. Just an idea but seach Angie's List for contractors with a ocean okay roof or perhaps a big box like Menard's for an inexpensive metal roof.

One option is to choose a non-corrosive metal roof such as aluminum or copper which does not have a coastal environment exclusion.
