From what I have heard - no - and a lot are junked early in their life due to leakage issues and much higher maintenance costs. For my money - a plain-jane mechanical timer and NO electronics machine for about $400-500 cannot be beat - last longer, lower maintenance costs, and if major maintenance is needed then just replace it rather than throw down $400-800 on a repair. After all, this is not a recreational or life critical device - it just washes clothes, for goodness sakes, so why spend $1000-5000 on it.

The only reason I could see for getting a steam machine would be in a house with a person with communicable disease or extreme allergy issue which makes steam cleaning advisable.
