Several response to that general questions right below this answer - lots more in the Home >Driveways link right under your question.

Be sure to pay attention and specify to bidders (after discussing with a few) whether you want bids for tearout and full replacement, overlay, or just sealing - big difference between the three.

And remember, a major portion of an asphalt driveway's life is whether the subgrade stays dry - so removing substandard soill under it, and providing definitive drainage along the sides to keep runoff moving away from the drive rather than allowing it to come back in under is critical to a good life. This may require local regrading along the drive, elevating the drive and the area a couple of feet wide alongside it, putting in an underdrain, or putting in a downturned thickened edge on the uphill side, for instance.
