My personal favorite - the Murray Ohio Manufacturing (now Murray Mower) rotary mowers with Briggs and Stratton engines, at building supply stores and WalMart and Sears - I still have an 18 inch from 1980 I now use for mulching (really heavy use), plus a 22 inch about 20 years old for regular lawn mowing which I bought for the wider mowing path. Cost about $150 on sale, $200-250 regular price. I just saw one the other day at Walmart for $129 including bag. I like the side discharge or mulch ones ones - but the one I gave the price on above will bag, discharge the cuttings out the side, or mulch depending on how you configure it.

Neither of mine have required ANY repair or maintenance other than oil changes every 3 years or so, cleaning out the accumulated grass underneath each spring, pulling off the blade and sharpening it annually, and plug cleaning every 10 years or so.

I have found these last longer and are more maintenance free than my neighbor's $400-500 name-brand ones.

Several neighbors I have recommended these to who recentlhy bought them say the quality appears to still be as good.
