can a kohler toilet with a canister flushing system be refitted with a traditional flapper?

Back-to-back toilet installations. Does the canister flushing system on a Kohler give it the extra force of water when flushed?

The back-to-back thing should have no effect.

They claim it makes a difference - not much that I can see. Their "Class 5" and such is just a marketing gimmick to try to get people to buy their latest and greatest (which is not necessarily any improvement or an necessary upgrade - sort of like upgrading your iPhone just because there is a higher numbered version, even if you will not use any of the new "features".

Whether you can swap it out or not depends on the hole size - some of the canister types have a larger holein the tank bottom so you would have to find a flapper which fits it. They do exist for some models - look like these (not showing specific ones to fit yours, just examples) including ones from Kohler, which of course would be preferred if they specifically say they fit your tank model. Also one articel I found on the subject by Terry Love - always a good reference on home repair issues.
