can mold in basement affect my belongings upstairs through air conditioning and heater?

we had mold in our basement, lots of it. we had to get rid of everything we owned down there. we had some problems with our landlord so we ended up moving to a new house. we brought all of our belongings from upstairs but are now noticing (especially on mattresses and couch) the moldy scent of our old basement. there was no mold upstairs and the air quality was within normal range. but would the furnace have sent the moldy air and mold spores upstairs every time the air conditioning or heater turned on? should we get rid of all of our belongings upstairs too? at least the ones i can’t wash or wipe clean? like mattresses and our couch. i can wash the surface of the couch but not deep within the cushions. could it be affected by the mold and be unhealthy for us to lay and live on because we are still breathing in the mold and moldy smell? we just want to make sure things are as healthy as possible for our children. am i being paranoid or is it really better to replace those items?
