Question DetailsAsked on 10/16/2015

contractor payment schedule

How long do I have to give the contractor his final payment after work has been completed? We have been trying to get work done on our home (roof, downspouts, fascia, screens) for over a month. Part of the work has been completed, but the contractor is dragging his feet and giving us the runaround about completing the work. We do not even know where our window screens are at this time. If and when they finally complete the work, how long do I have from the date of completion to make final payment? (We want to get someone else to inspect the work that has been done before we make final payment). We live in Ballwin, Missouri.

Depends on your contract terms - and sometimes on state law, which generally specifies payment upon completion, 14/15 days, or 30 days if the contract does not specify. However, do not expect to get your lien release(s) and warranty paperwork until you give final payment (which should occur simultaneously).
