I have never heard of a Weather Guard heat pump brand, but if 28 years old sounds like it was a bargain for you. if you read the "Weather Guard' off the logo on the fan cover, that is a brand name of just fan covers - so if that is the case, may be another brand - usually logo'd on the cover panel, and labelled on a metal (likely if that old) or plastic nameplate and rating label INSIDE the unit - have to remove cover panel to access it.

Anyway, here are some previous responses to similar questions on similar sized heat pumps, FYI. With that old a unit, and considering almost certainly will have a different refrigerant gas with higher pressure, likely a good idea (if not mandatory) to replace the tubing as well, as least all that can be done without massive tearing into walls. (This cost is commonly not included in quotes on replacement systems).
