does contractor have to gives receipts for items with warranty

Home addition being done, have hired a contractor. We understand we should not request receipt for material, but what about items like a central air unit. We believe we should receive receipt for that for warranty purposes.

YES - though unless the warranty registration requires the pricing (and that might or might not be enforceable), he could black out the prices - but the warranty is part of the installed appliances and materials (including siding and roofing and such commonly), so he has to provide you (under the Uniform Commercial Code) ALL the item you paid for - including accessories, remote controls, spare parts, AND the warranty form and what it takes to file the warranty - including his invoice, etc as required by the manufacturer - otherwise he has not "rendered a complete product", in legalese.

Getting warranties and necessary proof of pruchase, remotes, spare parts that came with the units, filters, installation and owners manuals, etc should be an item on the completion Punchlist.

And go through the list of everything which might have a warranty - ALL mechanical / electrical equipment installed as part of the job, all HVAC equipment, siding, roofing, doors and windows and flooring commonly. Light fixtures, fans, etc. Sometimes piping materials. Paint - especially exterior.
