Of coarse start with hecking the reviews on "Angie's List" first. I would suggest looking for great reviews from members that have hired the handyman to perform the same task(s) that you are looking for a handyman to do for you. You can also look at their website for a "gallery" tab that has photos of some of the projects they have done. Ask for referrences that you can talk to about what work they had done and how it went. Check to see if the BBB has any registered complaints against them and if so, have they been resolved. Keep in mind that a lot of trades require a license to be held by the person who performs the work. Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, and in some states even tile work and drywall trades require a license. Check the laws in your state, county, and city to see what is required for a particular trade. And always trust your gut when interviewing/talking to potiental handymen about what it is you are wanting to get done. I hope this helps you get the right person for your project(s).
