Depends on manufacturer and type of shingles how many are in a bundle - commonly 3 bundles per square (100SF) for 3-tab, 4 bundles per square for architectural or 5 tab but can be 5 bundles/square or even more for over-length (up to 6 feet) specialty shingles - and some come in other configurations - and occasionally (especially in near-border areas) you can get shingles that are an even number of bundles per 10 or 33 or 100 square meters ! Also, how many shingles it takes to cover a square varies by the shingle expsoure - in high wind areas the exposure of the tabs is reduced in some cases, meaning more shingles per square. And of course starter and ridge shingles come in different coverage areas per bundle too. And don't even get me started on metal shingles - can be as many as 10 bundles per square for stone-coated metal shingles.
