Hello, this is Kyle K from the Member Care Department.

I apologize for my delay. Businesses can either create a free listing through our Business Center or their company is added when a client submits information or a review on them.

Please let me know if there's any other assistance or info I can provide. You can respond in line to this Q&A thread by submitting a new answer. You can also reach us at memberservices@angieslist.com or toll-free at 1-866-783-2980 to speak with a live representative. Our call center hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am-8:15 pm Eastern Time or Saturday from 8:30 am-3:00 pm ET.

Thanks for writing! - Kyle K

Based on prior responses by AL:

They can appear in the Search the List categories by being added to the list as part of a review by a customer - either member or non-member. Or they can sign up as a business and provide their own info, though they will not appear in Searches by category until someone does a review. if they adsded themselves, their company page will appear right off - just with no reviews or ratings till someone reviews them.

The company website info - the company profile - is provided by the reviewer or the company initially, then AL goes through a verification process and attempts to verify things like contact info, licensing, categories they work in, etc. Of course, any advertising is prepared by the company, with advertising fees paid to AL of course same as if they were advertising on other websites or in a magazine or paper.
